Vibrant & liveable

This iconic 60s apartment building is a special one, with original features and natural light in abundance. Our clients wanted and create a vibrant and practical home with mid-century detailing to celebrate the history of the building.

The new kitchen was designed to maximise storage and usability whilst working in within strict parameters around utility placements due to existing apartment services.

The joinery fronts were crafted from a combination of birch & coloured HPL plywood to create a playful and retro look. Simple cut outs were chosen for the handles to show off the beauty of the birch ply edge. The plywood was also utilised again to create slatted timber panelling on both the range hood and the island front. Implementing timber slats was a direct call back to the original architectural details of this historic building that still boasts an original timber slatted wall panelling in the foyer.

Timeless organic square tiles in a matt finish were used for the splash-back with a contrasting orange grout to feed into the rich colour of the wall above.

 
 

hues of green

To finish off the kitchen we chose a pendant that would reflect and enhance the character of this vibrant mid-century home. The PH5 replica light in hues of green perfectly complemented the colour scheme and with orange accents to connect the kitchen walls into the greens of the living area.

CLEVER & COMPACT

The bathroom & laundry for this penthouse apartment had many obstacles to overcome. The original layout was exceedingly cramped and the existing shower had to be raised significantly to accommodate plumbing fixtures.

To create space for the vanity we created an alcove using part of the spare room. The floor was split into 3 levels to accommodate the plumbing and step into the shower. A compact laundry is tucked in on the right within a cupboard, with a cavity slider to give simple access.

Stunning Resene ‘atomic’ blue walls with matching blue grouted tiles transformed the once dreary space into delightful and practical bathroom.
