ICONIC WELLINGTON APARTMENT
This iconic 60’s apartment building is a special one, with original features and natural light in abundance. We were lucky enough to have lovely clients who purchased the penthouse and were ready to make it their own. The clients wanted a simple design that was of the era but not too fussy, and joinery to house their extensive library. The interior design incorporates a colour palette which is not shy, but is in perfect harmony with the use of birch plywood joinery. The library joinery has flexibility with adjustable shelves, incorporates the sound system and a hidden shelf for IT services. Colour has also been applied in the bathroom and toilet, and on all of the apartment walls and doors.
The modern kitchen design follows the material palette, again with ample storage and all mod-cons. Simple cut outs for the handles make use of the beauty of laminated plywood (HPL) and pre-finished birch plywood panels. And in the bathroom and the kitchen design we have used coloured grout, and black fittings to keep a clean aesthetic.
WELLINGTON WATERFRONT APARTMENT
These clients are a professional couple who wanted to update their space to reflect them and the environment they live in. And their brief was to have a functional kitchen design that is beautiful with clean finishes and lots of additional storage. The clients are entertainers and have an extensive booze collection, so we designed cabinetry and wine storage on the living room side of the penninsula bench. Overhead cabinetry allows access to glassware from this side and is a beautiful feature in it’s own right, with fluted glass and black powder-coated steel with LED lighting integrated.
In the dining space we’ve added a long bench seat spanning the width of the room which creates an eye line leading out to the ocean and the ‘Strand’ pendant light sits proud and in line with your walk down the hallway from the bedrooms. We re-designed the wardrobes to gain greater storage capacity for suitcases etc, and we’ve added more hanging space, and pull-out shoe storage.
Selected furniture and furnishings were carefully curated to fit within the small apartment space, for comfort and also to allow flexibility. Cuddling the sofa is a custom unit that doubles as a display space and a spot to put down your glass, with bonus additional storage cupboards behind the sofa. And who wouldn’t want to cuddle on this couch and stare at that view!
WE CRAFT SPACES TO MATCH YOUR LIFESTYLE.
EMERALD GREEN KITCHEN
This is a simple and elegant kitchen design - which doesn't shy away from colour. A new extension was planned here, to add a larger living, dining space and a new main bedroom, walk-in robe and ensuite. The main brief for the kitchen was to have better storage, bench space, and flow through to dining and outdoor living spaces.
The emerald green tiles were part of the client's vision - a statement alongside ply and clean white cabinetry, with brass fixtures to add some warmth and character. The kitchen in a spacious u-shape for a busy family that could have many bodies using the space at one time. However, leaner space on the other side of the penninsula and a spacious dining area were also designed, to create different sitting and working zones.
Lots of natural light is let in through the skylight, and cleverly integrated open shelving utilises the hard to reach high areas of the kitchen. Simple sliding doors and timber pull handles and a plywood ceiling complete an eclectic palette that suits the client well. A well-loved, well-used, functional and beautiful kitchen.
A WALLPAPERED BATHROOM DESIGN
This was a new ensuite created through a residential extension of this home. The space was carved out alongside a new master bedroom, and walk-in wardrobe. In this long narrow space we've been able to create a spacious tiled shower with an in-wall cistern toilet tucked away, and a cavity slider to enter.
Tones of teal and emerald are displayed in the forested wallpaper, and emerald fish scale tiled shower. A happy asymmetry has been created with the vessel basin, oak vanity and circle mirror. Beauty you live in.
Character villa KITCHEN DESIGN
This 1890's villa has had a complete renovation, and incorporates a contemporary kitchen and laundry that leads into the back garden. An optimal kitchen layout has been achieved though the reconfiguration of the hallway doors. Solid oak features alongside modern cabinetry in powder blue hues, and paired with marbled porcelain benchtops and splashbacks. The generous laundry, which doubles as a scullery space is tucked behind Hafele pocket doors to keep everything tidy. The ceiling feature was designed to accentuate the high stud, and mount a stunning brass and smoke six-light pendant. Appliances, flooring, space planning and joinery detailing have all been thoughtfully designed to create a practical and beautiful space for this forever home.
TWO MODERN BATHROOM designs
Two bathroom designs were created for this character villa - a main bathroom with generous bath and shower, and an ensuite with adjoining dressing room and wardrobe. Each design consists of statement tiling, custom joinery and brass and black fittings. Lovely rounded edges of the vanity tops and shower glazing provide some softness to the strong details. Exceptionally finished, these tiled bathrooms are fresh, modern and generous in the re-design of an old home.
KITCHEN DESIGN WITH A VIEW
The existing kitchen design in this apartment was dark and dated. We opened up the space, and used a warm, sophisticated material palette. The client likes to cook and entertain, so the kitchen design reflects this. Power and water are located at the end of the island bench, so we removed the existing wall that blocked the view to the waterfront, and added a slim beam detail that becomes a ceiling feature.
Push to open cabinetry, and electronic opening cupboards allow easy access and a clean contemporary style. Paired with great lighting, modern furniture and soft furnishings, this is a wonderful place to spend time staring out at the Wellington harbour.
Apartment BATHROOM DESIGN
This is an apartment bathroom design with texture, warmth and style. Warmth is created through the use of stone tiles - Quantum TDM Revolution Patagonia tiles on the walls, and CDK Stone Neolith Iron Copper Silk on the floor. The brief was for 'a touch of luxury' - and so we designed a large double rainhead tiled shower, two heated towel rails, and an in-wall cistern toilet to reveal more space. Finished with aged iron fittings, a Hinkley Vaughn vanity light, and oak timber vanity.
The result is spacious and rich in texture, warm and inviting bathing experience in the interior design of the penthouse.
BEAUTY YOU LIVE IN.
Modern and Rustic Kitchen
A strong statement is made in this kitchen design through the use of black and grey, a streamlined Ceasarstone ‘rugged concrete’ benchtop, hexagon tiled kitchen splashback and rustic furniture pieces. It was a major renovation of this small suburban bungalow which transformed the space from being closed, dark and unworkable into a light, open kitchen design with stunning finishes. The kitchen opens onto a spacious balcony with barbeque and entertaining area. And a scullery is tucked behind the kitchen with pantry and dishwashing space.
DUAL BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY DESIGN
Sometimes the laundry needs to be integrated into the bathroom design - it doesn’t mean it needs to be drab! Laundries can be gorgeous, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Caestarstone benchtop and brass wall fittings are paired with textured bathroom splashback tiles. A luxurious sized shower with a tiled niche and vertical towel rails span the room, and a vintage mirror and custom made hexagonal plywood wall shelf hang to adorn the walls.
HIGH GLOSS AND HIGH TECH KITCHEN
A large renovation involving the removal of a wall and a steel beam concealed in the ceiling. A transformative layout, problem solving and attention to detail were critical to the success and precise outcome, as were the many trades and hours involved. The result is a high-end kitchen design with stunning finishes, lighting effects, and custom details including the oak battened feature wall with touch screen computer and photo box - making use of what would have been a blank wall. The angled shape of the island works well to connect the adjacent rooms, allowing a gathering and entertaining space. High gloss and high-tech – materials, appliances, and cohesive customised design come together in this space as a high performance and practical kitchen design.
LIGHT MEETS DARK KITCHEN DESIGN
This is a wonderfully quirky kitchen design with beautiful depth of colour and a central island bench for socialising. A living space is adjoined to the right; warm and cosy with the same hues. Highly functional cabinetry, open shelving for quick access and easy-clean cupboards and drawers. Amber glass lighting and accessories accent the stunning moody tones in the kitchen.
This kitchen has been written about and featured in publications. See our press page for more.
COMFORT YOU NEVER WANT TO LEAVE.
WARM WHITE KITCHEN
Over 10 years old, this kitchen design highlights how the pairing of timber with white is a no fail classic interior design combination. Stainless steel, white stone benchtops and handless cabinetry are hard working materials. Paired with timber shelving and architectural details, linen curtains and playful nz artwork this kitchen design is practical, warm and timeless.
TIDY LITTLE SPACES - A COMPACT kitchen design
Great things come in small packages. Like this wonderfully light and functional kitchen design, with stunning finishes and fittings. A place for everything, and everything in it’s place. This small kitchen comes with generous storage and tidy brass cabinet pulls to match with a brushed brass gooseneck mixer, which will only get better with age.
CLASSIC KIWI KITCHEN DESIGN
Simplicity and good design create a classic kitchen. Plywood is used as a negative detail which also forms a waterfall end to the bench and the penninsula. Lots of cupboard space, open shelving and hard wearing materials work well for a family with kids. Cost effective and timeless, and not afraid of colour, this kitchen design is a winner!
KEEPING IT REAL. BEAUTIFULLY.
POLISHED FAMILY KITCHEN
The kids gather around the island to eat, do homework and chat with their parents in this light and airy kitchen. A polished concrete floor defines the kitchen while open to the remainder of the house, and white cabinetry and oak detailing compliment the bright space. Tidy oak trims are set into the concealed drawer pulls and the top of the cabinetry, and simple pendants hang over the island unifying the finishes in this clean and functional kitchen design.
Beauty is in the details - tiled bathroom
Stunning materials and textures grace this bathroom design. Brushed brass faucets are wall-mounted to provide maximum effect on the gorgeous deep sea panelled walls and the penny-tiled walls. A concrete tiled shower includes a stepped shelf that runs the length of the wall, providing storage throughout the bathroom. Geometries of the fixtures are mirrored in the tiling and bring measure and harmony to the bathroom design.
kitchen with class
This kitchen design packs in a lot into its defined space. An ample pantry with bench space sits behind sliding doors to conceal the clutter behind. A large fridge and double oven are also neatly tucked in. Beautiful detailing with plywood cupboard fronts, open shelving and spacers tie in the clients original timber floor and vintage furniture. Topped off with black fittings, green glass pendants and tiled splash back, this kitchen is timeless and functional.
CHARACTER AND STYLE
The deep sea teal colour on the walls of this bathroom enhance the original features of the room - white framed window and ceiling cornice. Modern and classic adornments provide a practical and beautiful bathroom setting. The bath takes centre stage atop the original polished wood floor, the bathroom includes an off-the-shelf shower and the toilet is modestly tucked behind a partition wall.
BATHROOMS. BEAUTY YOU LIVE IN.
stained glass symmetry
Pretty stained glass in the window and door of this bathroom was the starting point for a traditional design. The painted paneling provides a backdrop to the pedestal basin and wall hung toilet. The claw foot slipper bath that sits snug at the back of the room has wall mounted taps that are centred to the beautiful window above. A generous shower complete with traditional chrome fixtures throughout, this bathroom has all that the client desired in the small space, and is perfectly finished.
CLASSIC WHITE KITCHEN DESIGN
A classic white kitchen design, with framed cabinetry, white subway tiles and a white appliances. A large butlers sink and pewter cabinetry handles were part of the client brief to keep a traditional aesthetic. Solid timber shelving for display and storage, sits above the breakfast bar and extra storage for wine and stationery.
Old with the new
The decision to keep the existing exposed brick wall was an easy one in this renovation. The brick wall adds massive amounts of character to the space and helps tell a story about the building's history. This is another great example of how the pairing of white with timber and other colours and textures helps to warm up the space and really make it feel like a home.
SCULLERIES AND LAUNDRIES
Custom storage specific to your needs; we design sculleries, pantries and laundries for most of our clients. Whether you need shelves for preserves, an entertainers scullery, or a mudroom come laundry, we craft spaces to match your lifestyle. A few examples are below of completed projects.
COMMERCIAL WORKSPACE - WOOLYARNS DYE LAB
Contracted to design the space for the Woolyarns Dye Lab, there were very specific requirements for materials, durability, and custom design for unique equipment used in the testing and dyeing process. The lab required surfaces impervious to dye, simple construction and easy to use while working in the space. The workspace design is practical, with clear displays and storage and ergonomic workspaces for the team.
WORKSPACE DESIGN - HOME OFFICE
A workspace design to inspire. This large and spacious room became a beautiful home office near the sea with high stud and heaps of natural light. The workspace has custom joinery with integrated lighting and beautiful detailing helped to house a large library, and collections of NZ art and sculpture as well as collected objects.
